Doorless Walk-In Showers
Stationary panels, or “spray panels” are a common feature in Florida style bathrooms. Many builders and designers use these inoperable panels to form “walk in” showers with no doors to operate or swing.
This gives the homeowner the feel of freedom and yields a very “open” look. These panels can be made from a variety of glass styles, patterns and thicknesses.
While there are many reasons to use “spray panels” their biggest drawback is that they do not allow for the containment of heat.
Cold air-conditioning drafts are not what the customer desires when taking a relaxing shower. Many times additional panels or doors are added to contain the warm heat of the hot shower.
Because of their nature, multiple fixed panels may be arranged in such a way as to give an architectural design while still being functional and beautiful.
Fixed panels have also been used as room dividers, dividers in water closets, and areas that separate the shower from the tub area.
Certain style of Florida homes have one large shower with exits into two separate and distinct rooms. In this situation, the customer often chooses to mix clear (or Ultra Clear) panels with either frosted or pattered glass.
This gives a distinct look and creates the illusion of separate showers.
